Standing up, I bare my neck as he unhooks my collar from the chain. The drop in weight feels like a relief, and this time, Iâm a little more prepared when he picks me up and throws me over his shoulder.
All I can do is mouth a silent plea of ânot the cageâ as he starts walking, then breathe a sigh of relief as he ascends the stairs. The sex room I can handle. Itâs so familiar to me at this point that I can count the shackles on the wall before we even reach the first floor â but he doesnât take me there. He takes me left, to his room.
If I thought the other rooms had a gothic feel, theyâre nothing compared to his. Itâs pitch black thanks to the blinds, but when he flicks on the dim lamp, I see nothing but blacks and charcoal greys. His bed is made almost professionally before he tosses me on top of it, the nightstand bare aside from a charger cord and a bottle of water, but itâs him who has my full attention as he strips. âHow did you feel when he touched you?â
âHonestly?â I focus on the raven on his chest. I canât believe Iâm about to say this to him, and more than that... I actually mean it. âHeâs handsome, but heâs not you. Every time he touched me, it felt wrong.â
Heâs naked save for the mask now, slowly stalking forward until heâs close enough to grab my legs and tug me closer to him. âThatâs because you know youâre mine. No one else will ever feel right again.â
I want it off. Whateverâs about to happen, I want to really face him when it does. âMmhm. I belong to Roderick.â
His body stiffens, fingertips digging deeply into my skin as he takes deep, calming breaths. âSay my name, Odette.â
âI just did. Roderick,â I push. âDonât know your fake last name.â
âThen say my fucking real one.â
My heart races as I realize this is it. Either Iâm right or Iâm wrong, and if Iâm wrong... well, Iâd hate to be me afterward. Sitting up, I slowly reach up to grip the bottom of his mask. âI belong... to Drake Rhodes.â
I rip it off his face, gasping when I see the face that has haunted my dreams for years. He looks more mature now with scruff covering his cheeks and chin, but he has the same crease between his brows Iâm convinced he was born with, the same perfectly full lips Iâd always wished I tried before cutting him off. He was every walking red flag ever, and in the first week of knowing him, every instinct I had told me to run.
Who knew Iâd end up running straight toward him in the end?
Something in my demeanor has his deep blue eyes looking more panicked than Iâve ever seen, and when I move an inch, he assumes Iâm about to run. Or at least, thatâs how it seems when he grabs me by my throat and pulls me in to press his forehead to mine.
